Texas Capital Provides $1 Million Grant to Advance Community Connection Through Southern Gateway Park

Published on Jun 13, 2024

DALLAS – June 13, 2024 – Texas Capital (NASDAQ: TCBI) President & CEO Rob C. Holmes and members of the firm’s executive leadership team joined Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation President & CEO April Allen on June 11, 2024, at Southern Gateway Park for a ceremonial concrete pour honoring Texas Capital’s $1 million grant and the start of construction on 'The Texas Capital Landing.’

Opening in 2026, Southern Gateway Park is a five-acre bridge park spanning Interstate 35E between Ewing and Marsalis Avenues, directly adjacent to the Dallas Zoo. This “park with a purpose” will transform the city’s southern sector, attracting an estimated 2 million visitors annually and generating an estimated $1 billion in economic impact in its first five years.

The Texas Capital Landing is located at the park’s highest elevation, featuring panoramic views of downtown Dallas with an elevated open plaza surrounding the rain wall water feature. The investment underscores Texas Capital's longstanding commitment to Southern Dallas and will continue the critically important work of reconnecting Southern Dallas with the rest of the city.

“Southern Gateway Park is essential to our community because it makes Dallas whole. Not only will it bring in a lot of development to Southern Dallas, but it will also connect communities and bring jobs to the area,” said Holmes. “We are proud to play an important part in bringing this big idea to life.”

Since its founding 25 years ago, Texas Capital has strongly committed to Southern Dallas through prior investments in affordable housing, education and business development. The company has a long history of promoting growth and development in the area, including initial investments to jump start the Red Bird Mall redevelopment as well as build the first new homes in The Bottom District.

“We are so grateful for Texas Capital’s generous support of Southern Gateway Park, not just financially but also in terms of their shared commitment to Southern Dallas,” said April Allen, President and CEO of the Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation. “Transformational projects like Southern Gateway Park need support and partnership from every sector of our community to be successful – including government, private philanthropy, individuals and corporations like Texas Capital. Their gift will bring us one step closer to completing this beautiful park and improving the lives of residents for generations to come.”

The $1 million grant is the largest in history for the Texas Capital Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Texas Capital. With this grant, Texas Capital also joins the Southern Gateway Park Champions Circle, which consists of corporate partners who commit $1 million or more to the landmark project and who share its mission to create safer, healthier places for all residents to live and play.

“This investment marks a continuation of our dedication to Southern Dallas. We are excited to support Southern Gateway Park’s mission of making transformational change in this community and the surrounding area,” said Texas Capital Head of Community Development and Corporate Responsibility, Effie Dennison.

About Southern Gateway Green Foundation
Southern Gateway Park is currently under construction, spanning I-35E between Ewing and Marsalis Avenues, directly adjacent to the Dallas Zoo. Slated to open in 2026, the five-acre “park with a purpose” will be a key catalyst for closing the opportunity gap that was created when the highway was originally built in the 1950s through the middle of Oak Cliff. The park is a public/private partnership with the City of Dallas and the Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation, with support from the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
