Born of Bold Ideas: How Texas Shaped Two Game-Changing Visions

Texas Capital’s and PBR’s stories share more than geography

Texas has always been a place where big ideas take root. It’s where tradition meets innovation and where bold thinkers turn ambition into reality. In the ‘90s, that spirit sparked two visions that would leave a lasting mark — one in the dirt of the rodeo arena and another in the heart of the financial world.

From Rodeo Dream to Global Stage

In 1992, after pooling $1,000 each, 20 professional bull riders gathered in Fort Worth. They shared a bold ambition: to elevate bull riding from a rodeo spectacle to a mainstream sport showcasing raw athleticism and fan engagement. That vision became Professional Bull Riders (PBR).

PBR launched its first official season in 1994, and the sport quickly captured fans’ attention. By the late ‘90s, PBR hosted dozens of events each year, introducing innovations like standardized scoring and television broadcasts that brought the drama of eight seconds to living rooms nationwide.

Today, PBR is a global phenomenon with more than 800 riders competing in over 200 events annually across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Australia. Its championship events fill arenas, attract millions of fans and reach audiences in more than 50 countries. What started as a handful of riders with a dream has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the world — proof that bold ideas backed by determination can change everything.

Building Financial Excellence from the Ground Up

Meanwhile, in Dallas, another ambitious undertaking was underway. Texas Capital Bancshares — the parent company of Texas Capital — was founded in 1998 with $80 million in startup capital, the largest amount ever raised for a new Texas financial institution at the time. From the start, its purpose was clear: serve driven businesses and individuals with strength, precision and partnership.

The bank went public in 2003 and grew steadily, expanding across major Texas markets and building a reputation for relationship-driven services and sophisticated solutions. Over the years, Texas Capital became a trusted partner for middle market companies, entrepreneurs and investors who value expertise and agility. Its approach blends deep Texas roots with forward-thinking strategies, offering clients tailored solutions that help them compete and lead in an increasingly complex economy.

In 2021, Texas Capital pivoted to a full-service financial services model, adding investment banking and private banking to its offerings. Today, Texas Capital manages billions in assets and continues to lead with innovation and resilience, helping clients pursue growth with confidence.

Shared Vision, Shared Spirit

These two stories share more than geography — they share a mindset. Both were born of Texas-sized ambition and shaped by the relentless pursuit of excellence. PBR transformed a handful of riders into a global sport, while Texas Capital turned a bold concept into a trusted financial leader. Together, they show how vision and resilience can redefine what’s possible.
